The Askern Project

In September 2012 I purchased 60 glass photographic slides of scenes taken in and around Askern, near Doncaster, in the late 1800s and early 1900s. I am fairly sure, and reliably informed that these images have never been seen before. The specific areas are :

  • Askern
  • Owston
  • Sutton
  • Campsall
  • Norton
  • Fenwick

At the moment (Oct/Nov) the slides are with Jeff Allsop, of Snaith, a professional developer being digitally remastered. When they return to me I am going to start taking a modern day perspective of the same view so that I can compile a ‘Now and Then’ publication.

I will keep you updated on the progress of this project and with the progress of my application for Heritage Lottery funding to make it a community project.

I will need lots of help along the way as I am not from Askern and don’t have a great deal of local knowledge. If you have this knowledge and/or would like to be involved in this project then I would love to hear from you via the contact form.

……..watch this space.

There is now a brand new Askern History website which you can view by clicking HERE
